The School of Science Education (SoSE) is dedicated to preparing future educators and professionals equipped with strong subject matter expertise and pedagogical competence. Located at the Oswald Mang’ombe Campus in Butiama, the School serves a diverse community of students, teachers, and education stakeholders, fostering a safe, inclusive, and intellectually stimulating environment for learning, teaching, and research.

SoSE plays a pivotal role in fulfilling MNUAT’s mission by offering multidisciplinary training that blends theory with practice in science education and related fields.

Planned Academic Programmes

Starting in the next academic year, SoSE will launch its first degree programme:

  • Bachelor of Science with Education (Agricultural Science and Biology)
This programme is designed to prepare highly competent secondary school educators with a solid foundation in agricultural sciences and biology, combined with professional teaching skills. It aligns with Tanzania’s need for qualified teachers in science-based subjects and supports national goals for improving agricultural literacy and STEM education.

Academic and Professional Training

Students at SoSE benefit from a dynamic curriculum that combines foundational theories with applied learning. Throughout their studies, students undertake school-based teaching practice in public and private schools across the country. These field attachments provide them with hands-on experience in:

  • Classroom teaching and subject delivery

  • School leadership and administration

  • Student mentorship and inclusive education practices

By graduation, students are well-prepared for careers in education, curriculum development, educational leadership, and subject-based instruction in STEM and humanities.

Why Choose SoSE?
  • A strong focus on pedagogical skills integrated with content mastery in science, engineering, agriculture, and humanities

  • Field-based teacher training that bridges theory and real-world teaching experience

  • Supportive learning environment led by faculty with interdisciplinary research interests

  • Opportunities to engage in research addressing education, rural development, and science learning

  • Contribution to national education goals through the preparation of competent, ethical, and innovative educators

Whether you are aspiring to become a teacher, researcher, or education leader, the School of Science Education at MNUAT offers a rigorous, practice-oriented pathway to achieve your goals.
