MNUAT has a growing network of campuses, each contributing to our mission of accessible education and research in agriculture and technology. The main campus, often referred to as Butiama Main Campus (BAIC), is located in Butiama District, Mara Region. This campus serves as MNUAT’s headquarters – hosting the central administration, the core academic buildings, main library, principal laboratories, and lecture halls. Spanning hundreds of hectares of scenic land near Lake Victoria, the Main Campus offers a peaceful academic setting. It features modern infrastructure blended with the natural landscape; students study under the shade of trees between classes and can see the rolling greenery that surrounds the university. Key facilities at the Main Campus include the Administration Block (housing offices of the VC and Deans), a newly built multi-story Library and ICT Resource Centre, well-equipped science labs for biology and chemistry, engineering workshops, lecture theaters with smart classroom technology, and demonstration plots and barns for agriculture practicals. Dormitories, cafeteria, a medical dispensary, sports fields, and staff housing are also part of the main campus complex, making it a self-contained academic village.
Beyond Butiama, MNUAT is expanding its footprint through specialized campuses:
-
Oswald Mang’ombe Campus (Butiama District): Located a short distance from the main campus, this campus currently focuses on programs in aquaculture and aquatic sciences. It sits closer to water resources, providing an excellent living laboratory for fisheries and aquaculture students. Oswald Mang’ombe Campus is also the site where additional classrooms and dormitories are under construction, as part of the University’s expansion to accommodate more students (notably diploma students as we increase intake). This campus has its own library, computer lab, and student hostels, and is named in honor of a local education advocate, reflecting MNUAT’s ties to the community.
-
Tabora Campus (Tabora Municipality): Situated in Tabora Region (central-western Tanzania), this campus extends MNUAT’s reach beyond the Lake Zone. Tabora Campus hosts diploma programs and some outreach training, especially in general agriculture and agri-business for the western zone of Tanzania. It has a modest but growing facility set – including lecture rooms, a computer lab, a small library and demonstration fields suited to the semi-arid conditions of Tabora. Tabora Campus allows students from western Tanzania to access MNUAT programs without relocating far, and it serves as a hub for research on dryland farming and bee-keeping (given Tabora’s famed honey production). Like other campuses, Tabora has student accommodation and basic sports grounds to ensure a full campus life experience.
