Across all its campuses, MNUAT invests in facilities that create a conducive learning environment:

  • Libraries: MNUAT libraries (at Butiama Main, Oswald Mang’ombe, and Tabora) collectively hold thousands of volumes and subscribe to numerous e-journals and e-books. The Main Campus Library is the largest, with seating for up to 2000 users and sections for general reading, reference, and a computer/ICT section managed by systems administrators for digital access. Smaller campus libraries like Tabora’s (120 seats) ensure students at distance have study space and can request materials from the main library. All libraries are connected via an online catalog. They also maintain evening and weekend hours to accommodate students’ study schedules.

  • Laboratories and Workshops: Our science labs for biology, chemistry, and food science are equipped with microscopes, analytical equipment, and reagents necessary for undergraduate practicals and faculty research. We have specialized labs like a Soil Science lab (for testing soil and water samples, crucial for agriculture programs) and an Animal Science lab (for basic veterinary diagnostics and feed analysis). In technology and engineering, we have computing labs with programming and GIS software, and engineering workshops stocked with tools and machines for fabrication, mechanics, and irrigation technology training. Safety is a priority  labs have safety equipment and students are trained in lab protocols. As part of the HEET Project, MNUAT is acquiring even more advanced equipment, such as biotechnology lab instruments (PCR machines, etc.) to support cutting-edge research training.

  • ICT Infrastructure: The University’s IT infrastructure supports both academic and administrative functions. We have campus-wide network connectivity. Smart classrooms with projectors and internet enable lecturers to use multimedia teaching aids. The campuses are progressively being linked by a centralized information system for student records and finance. The E-Library portal allows access to digital resources off-campus as well. Additionally, each campus has an IT support office to assist students and staff with technical issues, and to maintain computer hardware, printers, and networking.

  • Recreational and Social Facilities: Besides academic facilities, MNUAT offers spaces for relaxation and socialization. Common rooms in residence halls have TVs and seating for leisure. There are outdoor gazebos and benches around campuses where students often gather for group discussions or just to socialize between classes. Plans are underway to establish a Student Center at the main campus a building that would house recreational amenities like a small gym, indoor games (table tennis, board games), and offices for the Student Union. Meanwhile, existing sports facilities (described in Student Life) are maintained and open to students during designated hours. The main campus also has a scenic area by a small stream (or garden) where students like to walk and unwind an aspect we promote as part of a healthy campus lifestyle.

  • Hostels and Dining: (Covered under Student Life, but to reiterate) comfortable hostels and dining halls are part of our facility set. Each hostel is within walking distance to classes. Dining halls double as event halls for certain campus events when needed (e.g., assemblies or movie nights).

  • Transportation: The University maintains a fleet of a few buses and vans that are used for student field trips and staff official travel between campuses. Students going to field practical sites or research farms often use these transport services. There’s also a shuttle service that runs at scheduled times between the Main Campus and Oswald Mang’ombe Campus for both students and staff convenience.

  • Future Developments: MNUAT is continuously expanding its facilities. Notably, ongoing projects include a new complex of science laboratories, an auditorium with 500+ seating capacity for conferences and large lectures, and additional faculty office blocks. The Master Plan for the main campus includes provisions for a future teaching hospital (when the health sciences programs become operational) and more student hostels to accommodate the growing intake. Sustainability is considered in development new buildings incorporate rainwater harvesting and solar energy where possible, aligning with our commitment to sustainable technology.
