Mwalimu Nyerere University of Agriculture and Technology (MNUAT) is making significant progress with the Higher Education for Economic Transformation (HEET) Project. This five-year national initiative is funded by a World Bank loan to the Government of Tanzania through the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology (MoEST). 

With a total investment of TZS 102.5 billion, the University is improving its infrastructure, academic quality, and industry relevance. Major construction is ongoing at both Butiama Main Campus and Tabora Campus. This includes modern academic buildings, laboratories, lecture halls, student hostels, a new library, and necessary infrastructure like roads, water supply, and waste management systems.

MNUAT is also updating its academic programs with new curricula in STEM and Business to meet the demands of the current job market. The project also supports digital changes by providing the university with modern ICT facilities and upgrading its academic and administrative systems.

To strengthen its capacity, several academic staff members are pursuing Masters, PhDs, and short-term professional training. This will enhance the University’s teaching and research abilities.

Through the HEET Project, MNUAT aims to become a center for innovation and skills development. The university is dedicated to producing job-ready graduates who will play a meaningful role in Tanzania’s economic transformation.

           1.     Infrastructure Development

MNUAT is building modern facilities at both the Butiama Main Campus and the Tabora Campus. These include academic buildings, lecture halls, laboratories, a library, student hostels, and key infrastructure such as internal roads, a water supply, and waste management systems.

           2.     Curriculum Development

The University is updating 24 programs in Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics (STEM), and Business to meet job market demands and improve graduate employability.

           3.     Staff Capacity Building

Through HEET, several academic and administrative staff members are working towards Master’s and PhD degrees. Others are taking short-term professional development courses to improve their teaching, research, and leadership skills.

           4.    ICT and Digital Transformation 

MNUAT is upgrading its campuses with new ICT tools and facilities. The project also supports the digitalization of academic and administrative processes, making operations more efficient and improving access to learning resources and student services.

 MNUAT operates three campuses:

  • Main Campus (573 acres) and Oswald Mang’ombe Campus in Butiama, Mara Region.
  • Tabora Campus in Itonjanda Village, Tabora Region—expanding the University’s central‑Tanzania footprint.

Students use the Student Record Management System (SRMS) for academic records, the Learning Management System (LMS) for e‑learning, and the OAS for admission processes. These links are accessible under “Student Links” on the website. 

 All applications are completed online via the Online Application System (OAS). Create an account, confirm your Form IV details, pay the application fee, enter your Form VI index number (or Diploma AVN), rank your preferred programmes, review, and submit. Remember to log back in regularly to track the status of your application.

Admission requirements vary depending on the program. Generally, for undergraduate degree programs, applicants need to have successfully completed their Advanced Certificate of Secondary Education Examination (ACSEE) or equivalent with the required principal passes in relevant subjects. Specific entry qualifications for each program can be found in the university's admission guidelines on its official website.
