Higher Education for Economic Transformation (HEET) Project
Mwalimu Nyerere University of Agriculture and Technology (MNUAT) is making significant progress with the Higher Education for Economic Transformation (HEET) Project. This five-year national initiative is funded by a World Bank loan to the Government of Tanzania through the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology (MoEST). MNUAT is also updating its academic programs with new curricula in STEM and Business to meet the demands of the current job market. The project also supports digital changes by providing the university with modern ICT facilities and upgrading its academic and administrative systems. To strengthen its capacity, several academic staff members are pursuing Masters, PhDs, and short-term professional training. This will enhance the University’s teaching and research abilities. Through the HEET Project, MNUAT aims to become a center for innovation and skills development. The university is dedicated to producing job-ready graduates who will play a meaningful role in Tanzania’s economic transformation. 1. Infrastructure Development MNUAT is building modern facilities at both the Butiama Main Campus and the Tabora Campus. These include academic buildings, lecture halls, laboratories, a library, student hostels, and key infrastructure such as internal roads, a water supply, and waste management systems. 2. Curriculum Development The University is updating 24 programs in Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics (STEM), and Business to meet job market demands and improve graduate employability. 3. Staff Capacity Building Through HEET, several academic and administrative staff members are working towards Master’s and PhD degrees. Others are taking short-term professional development courses to improve their teaching, research, and leadership skills. 4. ICT and Digital Transformation MNUAT is upgrading its campuses with new ICT tools and facilities. The project also supports the digitalization of academic and administrative processes, making operations more efficient and improving access to learning resources and student services. |
