Dr. Abubakari S. Mgelwa

Dear MNUAT Community and Esteemed Stakeholders,

The QAU is mandated to assure, monitor, and enhance the quality of academic programs, research activities, consultancy services, outreach engagements, and administrative operations in alignment with the University's strategic goals. As the focal point for quality matters, the QAU operates under the Office of the Vice Chancellor and serves as a central driver in embedding a quality culture across the institution.

In line with the Tanzania Commission for Universities (TCU) guidelines and the Inter-University Council for East Africa (IUCEA) standards, the QAU ensures that the University complies with national and regional quality assurance frameworks. The Unit applies both internal and external mechanisms to establish and maintain robust quality management systems that drive excellence, innovation, relevance, and accountability across MNUAT’s academic and institutional functions.

Key Functions of the Quality Assurance Unit
  • Academic Quality Assurance – Coordinates curriculum development and review processes, monitors teaching and learning effectiveness, ensures alignment with the National Qualifications Framework (NTA), and evaluates assessment practices for fairness, validity, and reliability.

  • Research Quality and Ethics Oversight – Ensures the relevance, integrity, and impact of institutional research by monitoring research outputs, enforcing ethical compliance, and supporting research capacity building in alignment with national priorities.

  • Support for Accreditation and Institutional Self-Assessment – Facilitates institutional and program accreditation processes through systematic data collection, self-evaluation reports, compliance audits, and ongoing alignment with TCU benchmarks.

  • Monitoring and Evaluation of University Services – Conducts regular evaluations of academic and non-academic units, tracks performance indicators, and recommends strategic improvements to enhance institutional effectiveness and service delivery.

  • Promotion of Stakeholder Engagement and Continuous Improvement – Establishes feedback mechanisms from students, staff, alumni, and external partners, and uses findings to guide evidence-based improvements across all university functions.

"Quality in higher education is not just about compliance; it's about transformation."

Karibu Sana to the Quality Assurance Unit at MNUAT!
