MNUAT Staff Empowered on Competency-Based Curricula

Mwalimu Nyerere University of Agriculture and Technology (MNUAT) staff have undergone training on the development and implementation of competency-based curricula for diploma programmes. The five-day training was held at the Oswald Mang’ombe Campus and is expected to conclude today, August 29, 2025. The training aimed to build the capacity of staff in designing competency-based curricula, teaching methodologies, and student assessment procedures under these curricula. Closing the training, the Acting Deputy Vice Chancellor – Academics, Research, and Consultancy, Dr. Edward Mbwambo urged participants to take the training seriously and to avoid mixing traditional lecture methods with competency-based teaching. “We have acquired this knowledge, let us apply it with integrity. We are university lecturers teaching ordinary diploma students, so we must distinguish our teaching methods accordingly,” emphasized Dr. Mbwambo. Dr. Mbwambo also thanked the trainers, training coordinators, and all participants for contributing to the success of the programme. Dr. Zuwena Jackson, a lecturer at MNUAT, encouraged her fellow participants to use the training to enhance both teaching and learning for their students. “Let this training be the catalyst for shaping tomorrow through what we do today,” added Dr. Jackson. The training was facilitated by trainers from the National Council for Technical and Vocational Education and Training (NACTVET) and was attended by MNUAT staff from various departments, including lecturers, librarians, and laboratory technicians.

Mwalimu Nyerere University of Agriculture and Technology is preparing to receive students for the Ordinary Diploma in Agriculture Production programme in the 2025/2026 academic year, with the application window remaining open until September 18, 2025.
