Overview

The Bachelor of Science in Business Information Technology (BSc. BIT) is a multidisciplinary degree program designed to equip students with a strong foundation in both business principles and information technology. This program bridges the gap between business management and modern computing technologies, enabling graduates to understand and solve business problems through the application of IT solutions. Core areas of study include software development, databases, networking, business analysis, e-commerce, systems design, and IT project management.

Throughout the program, students develop analytical, technical, and managerial skills needed to design and implement business-oriented IT solutions. The curriculum emphasizes practical experience through lab work, case studies, internships, and industry projects, preparing students to work in diverse roles such as business analysts, systems developers, IT consultants, or project managers. Students are also introduced to current trends in digital innovation, cloud computing, cybersecurity, and data analytics to ensure relevance in a fast-changing industry.

Graduates of the BSc. BIT program are well-positioned to pursue careers in both public and private sectors, where the integration of IT and business is essential for efficiency and growth. Additionally, the program lays a strong academic foundation for those who wish to further their studies in information systems, business administration, or specialized IT fields. Ultimately, the BSc. Learning outcomes

Graduates of bachelor’s degree will have these Knowledges
  • Broad knowledge of the Business and IT systems, their different areas of applications, and their interactions with related subjects. Basic knowledge in agriculture
  • A detailed knowledge of the fundamentals of Business management including finance, accounts, marketing, and Economics. 
  • Critical understanding of the essential theories, principles, and concepts of Business and IT systems and of how these are developed through the main methods of inquiry in the subject. 
  • A broader understanding of Information Technology tools and capabilities and their interaction with the business world and how can they be integrated into the agriculture sector.
Graduates of bachelor’s degree will have well-developed skills to:
  • Gather, evaluate, analyze, and present information, ideas, concepts and quantitative and/or qualitative data, drawing on a wide range of sources.
  • Use routine materials, practices, and skills and of a few that are more specialized, advanced and complex as well as the use of ICT as appropriate to the Business and IT systems.
  • Integrate business and IT knowledge in the agriculture sector to improve.
Graduate of bachelor’s degree in business and IT systems will demonstrate ability to
  • Use their knowledge, understanding and skills, in both identifying and analysing problems and issues and in formulating, evaluating and applying evidence-based solutions and arguments. 
  • Communicate the results of their studies and other work accurately and reliably in a range of different contexts using the main specialist concepts, constructs and techniques of Business and IT systems. 
  • Apply their Business and IT skills and transferable skills to contexts where criteria for decisions and the scope of the task may be well defined but where personal responsibility, initiative and decision-making is also required; and 
  • Identify and address their own learning needs including being able to draw on a range of current research, development and professional materials.

Entry Requirements

General Minimum Entry Requirements for Admission 

The admission regulations for undergraduate degrees shall apply as stipulated in “Admission Requirements, Examination Regulations and Guidelines for Undergraduate and Non-Degree Programmes” of the MJNUAT.
The minimum entry requirements for admission into a Bachelor of Science degree programme in Business Information Technology shall be in any of the following categories: 

a)    Advanced Certificate of Secondary Education Examination (A-Level) - Two principal level passes in the following subjects: Advanced Mathematics and Physics or Chemistry, or Computer Science, or Agriculture, or Business Studies or Economics or any other Business-related subject with a total of 4 points (where A = 5; B = 4; C= 3; D = 2; E = 1; S = 0.5).

b)    Diploma in Mathematics, Statistics, Economics, or ICT-related subjects or Agriculture-related subjects with an average of “B+” or a minimum GPA of 3.0 or any related programmes recognised by the National Council for Technical and Vocational Education and Training (NACTVET). In addition, an applicant must have a minimum of “D” grade in Mathematics at O-level.
c)    These entry requirements have also considered recent overall changes in secondary school curricula and new subject combinations for Advanced Level secondary school education in Tanzania.

 All applications are completed online via the Online Application System (OAS).
